My work deals with the problems of everyday life – problems which have repeatedly attracted my attention, unsettled me, sometimes daunting me but also stimulating my commitment.
My encounters with people – especially women – in Tanzania, Botswana, and Nigeria – have had a deep impact on my manner of painting and on my choice of topics. They are reflected in my choice of colours and techniques as well as in the way my impressions are processed.
The artistic process is one of permanent transformation. In the creative moment, ideas, shapes and colours keep turning up, stimulating the working process, changing the implementation of concepts, occasionally leading to phases of stagnation.
I hope to encourage people to interfere, to commit themselves. My pictures are sketches of situations, snapshots aiming at transformation.
